!!!Soil Profile Mode in a Bottle!!!

Step 1) Get a 2L pop bottle and cut the top off. We are going to build the model upside down to keep the sand layer separate.

Step 2) Pour a thin layer of powdered cayenne pepper.

Step 3) Fill half the container with sand.

Step 4) Fill a quarter of the bottle with pebbles.

Step 5) Fill the rest of the pop bottle with large rocks or stones.

?HOW DOES IT WORK?
Physical Weathering:
also called mechanical weathering or disaggregation, is the class of processes that causes the disintegration of rocks without chemical change. Physical weathering involves the breakdown of rocks into smaller fragments through processes such as expansion and contraction, mainly due to temperature changes. Two types of physical breakdown are freeze-thaw weathering and thermal fracturing. Pressure release can also cause weathering without temperature change. It is usually much less important than chemical weathering, but can be significant in subarctic or alpine environments.
Abrasion Erosion:
When rock particles are carried by the atmosphere or hydrosphere and this material slams up against other rocks it chips pieces away from rocks. Such as the wind blowing the smaller sand grains across rocks, it not only breaks rocks down the wind can only pick up the smaller particles so high, they can create mushroom rocks. This process can make a varied of different shapes including arches. Where the soft rock gets worn away leaving the harder rock creating a hole in the rock.
Chemical Erosion:
Chemical erosion happens when the hydrosphere, and atmosphere react with minerals in the rock. Such as iron reacting with rain water, chemically reacting with the iron in rock. This breaks the rock down through the process of rusting creating rust particles. Acid rain is another form of erosion Acid rain can cause erosion of both natural and human-made surfaces, including: stone The acids in acid rain react with the calcite in limestone and marble, causing the stone to dissolve. This can lead to roughened surfaces, loss of carved details, and blackened crusts. The statue of liberty is also an example Copper oxide corrosion a slow process that occurs when copper atoms on the surface of copper react with oxygen molecules in the air to form copper oxide: Copper corrosion can take months or years to develop, and the copper's surface will gradually tarnish and turn dark brown or black before eventually developing a distinctive blue-green color. The final color depends on the balance of chemicals and time that the copper surface experiences, as well as the city it's in. For example, copper in cities with more aerosol sulfates, which are produced from burning fossil fuels, will tend to turn a darker shade of green or emerald.
