Each year, the festival Amersfoort Jazz pays particular attention to World Jazz from a selected country abroad. In recent years the festival’s focus has been on World Jazz from Thailand, South- Africa, Spain and Belgium.
In 2019 Amersfoort Jazz presented the Focus on World Jazz from Israel. One of the bands that was performing was the Amit Friedman Quartet. Saxophonist and composer Amit Friedman is among the leading musicians in the Israeli jazz scene. Friedman’s music is rooted in the jazz tradition and incorporates elements of world music and especially Middle Eastern music. The catchy compositions, which blend sophistication and simplicity, communicate with a wide range of audiences. Often, following a performance, one hears the comment, “I don’t like jazz and this music really touched me”.
Line-up: Amit Friedman (sax) / Nitsan Kolko (piano) / Gilad Abro (bass) / Yonatan Rosen (drums).
Amersfoort Jazz is yearly visited by about 80.000 people, who enjoy four days of World Jazz, adventurous and improvised music, an eclectic mix of musical genres and cultural traditions from all over the world.
