Kayaking and Canoeing the Bluestone River

Описание: This is a video from 2014 on the Bluestone River. This was a beautiful float on a cold fall day, kayaking with the great crew of Dana, Brian and Carter in a canoe.

The put-in is at a bridge just below the Interstate 77 bridge, and take-out at Pipestem Resort State Park via a chairlift-like tramway, which makes this one of the more novel take-outs. As seen in the video, the utility car used for carrying boats out is small; therefore, keep group sizes small as well. Pay for the ride up at the bottom and call first, I would not want to carry a boat up out of the gorge on my shoulder.

The level for the trip was around 4.5 or so and dropping, which felt on the low side. At that level, it was class 2ish, but I am very poor judge of river classification. A guidebook lists this a class 1-3 stream, with the recommended gage limits between 4 and 8. The upper mile or so has most of the drop, with a good amount of flat water after that. I would like to run the river again sometime, but would prefer more water and a boat good for surfing and play.
