Christians keep the Lord’s Day as holy. This is not because God forced a law to keep the Lord’s Day, and this is not so God can acknowledge us as righteous if we keep it. The Lord’s Day is when those who receive God’s grace meet willingly with thanksgiving and hope.

A perfect Lord’s Day has the same characteristics as the Lord (who is full of mercy and love). People suffer from all kinds of sicknesses of the heart. The church should not show spiritual pride in their presence, but provide them the chance to encounter God’s compassion and possess the hope of rest.

People do not feel pain just because of the flesh. People’s hearts are exhausted from the arrogance of the world. Saints who meet in the church on the Lord’s Day have overcome these trials by God’s compassion. They have gained courage once again to live by God’s grace in spite of all kinds of hardships.

Our bodies still remain in the place where the devil works. We are still in need of grace. So no one should assert their own greatness and expose other’s shortcomings. Those who are encouraged by the hope of heaven should instead help each other to discover God.

God wants to take lasting responsibility for every single person we meet in the church. This is how we should think when we see them: ‘God has pity on this person and will make him run with confidence!’, ‘God is taking a hold of this person so that she reaches eternal rest!’ and ‘Since the Lord shed for blood for this person, I also need to love him!’

When Jesus entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, there was a person with a shriveled hand. People thought this was a good chance to accuse Jesus. This was because even healing the sick on the Sabbath was defined by Rabbis as unlawful.

Jesus asked them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” He then healed the man with the shriveled hand. He had compassion on someone who could not live without grace and saved him. He gave him hope in the eternal rest.
