Our goal is to create this experience across both physical and virtual media to encourage young people to learn about whales — as well as other marine animals, such as dolphins, penguins, turtles, sharks, and seahorses — and, later, advocate for policies that support ocean ecosystems. We will provide the platforms and organize pop-up whale windsock events to help our participants express their newfound excitement through art that travels far beyond their own community. Hopefully, the experience will inspire the artists and their communities to make intentional decisions in their daily lives to benefit the health of marine life.
How to Participate
1. Encourage a young person (friend, family member, neighbor) to choose a marine animal to study. Help them along by going to the library, an aquarium, or watching a documentary
2. Record a short video of them sharing what they learned
3. Help them design and create a windsock of their choosing (see attached guide https://www.instructables.com/Portable-Win...)
4. Post the 'interview' and final product in action to social media using the hashtags: #WhaleWindsock, #AlaskaWhaleFoundation #windsock #Turtles, #Penguins, #Octopus, etc.(#LovetheWhales, #TurtlesRock) #HealthyOcean #25millionstitches #WisconsinMuseumofQuiltandFiberArts
5. Fill out the Whale Windsock Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mCHzTG276...
6. Use our Looplet space to learn more about the Whale Windsock Project. Go to looplet.ai → Join Loop → enter code: orcas. You'll find project info plus an AI chatbot that can explain the project, how to make/share a windsock, answer ocean-life, and translate into 40+ languages
