Once a staple of the hobby, Athearn's HO scale blue box kits were affordable, reliable, easy to build and maintain, and had just enough detail to look at home on most layouts. There are still many of them out there waiting to be built, and many that simply need a tune-up. In this video, I'll show you how to do all that! The model here is an SD40T-2, which I've always thought was the best looking of all the different versions of the SD40.
I wish they would bring these back. With manufacturing costs going up, basic partial kits like these would be a nice alternative to the costly ready to run models with super detailing, DCC and sound. Who needs all that stuff anyway? :)
