Car Brakes Grinding (Top Causes, And Solutions). In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix car brakes grinding.
Here is what causes it and how to solve the issue;
Worn-out brake pads
Your brakes may produce a grinding sound when your brake pads are completely worn out. You may experience this when trying to slow down or stop your car. Brake pads are usually thick but start to wear out with time. At first, you will hear a squealing noise, also known as brake scrubbing.
It’s important to pay attention to early warning signs like squealing or squeaking, as addressing these issues early can prevent the more severe grinding noise and potential damage to the rotor. As your brake pads continue to wear out further, they will produce a grinding sound. You need to replace your brake pads to stop this sound.
Debris between the caliper and the rotor
If you experience a grinding sound while driving your car, then it is likely that there is debris bouncing between the caliper and the rotor. Accumulation of this debris and any other dirt can result in further damage to your car. To fix this, inspect your car and remove the debris. If you are not experienced contact your mechanic to inspect and remove it.
Activation of the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
Your brakes will produce a grinding sound if you suddenly come to a stop. This is because the anti-lock braking system is activated immediately to stop your car wheels from losing traction or locking up. Avoid applying full brakes on your car frequently and the grinding will stop.
The grinding sound during ABS activation is normal in emergency braking situations as the system pulses the brakes to prevent wheel lock-up. However, this noise should not occur during regular driving or braking. If the sound persists, it’s advisable to have your ABS system inspected by a professional.
Caliper and brake disc scratching
If you experience a very sharper grinding sound, it might be as a result of scratching between the caliper and the brake disc. This occurs when you are slowing down your car. Inspect your rotor and brake disc and replace if they have worn out. If left unchecked, this issue can lead to more severe damage to the brake components, including the rotor and caliper. Addressing this issue early by replacing worn parts can prevent more costly repairs.
