This ash cereal bowl is turned from a tree that grew ~4 miles from my workshop on a local nature reserve. It was cut down during ash dieback management in 2019, planked at my local sawmill and stacked in my garden to dry. Finished dimensions and 4½" diameter x 2½" thickness.
As this bowl is intended for food use I use a finish which will be easy to reapply by the customer, as required. In this case it is hempseed oil, which is a drying oil that will cure in the wood and not go rancid. I previously used grapeseed oil but have recently switched to hempseed oil as it is manufactured near to where I live by a small cooperative called Hempen Organic.
