Russia’s Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported Tuesday that his forces seized 17 settlements and 500 square kilometres of territory in January, including the strategic hub of Kupyansk-Uzlovoy. Gerasimov claimed troops are now 12-14 kilometres from Zaporozhye’s outskirts while allegedly encircling 800 Ukrainian soldiers near the Oskol River. Ukraine has dismissed the reports as "parallel reality" fabrications intended to influence ongoing U.S.-brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi.
