We're in the little known Sky Islands of Arizona, flipping rocks in search of this region's rarest, most understudied, and most fascinating animals. The Sky Islands are a chain of remote montane forests running from the southwestern US through northern Mexico, and because of their isolation due to the deserts that surround each mountain, the animals that live there are essentially trapped on the slopes, forming a unique ecosystem full of wildlife you won't find anywhere else on Earth. Today, we're going to track down and document as many of them as we can for our life list.
We have been life-listing for most of our lives, at its core it's the activity of documenting every animal species we've ever successfully identified in the wild, and we're compiling all of our records and footage into an eventual database and website called the Biodiversity Library. We want this to be an educational and inspirational resource for everyone, scientists, educators, artists, and wildlife lovers alike. We're focusing our videos much more on our life-listing efforts going forward, and we'd love to hear any and all feedback you have about this pivot and what you'd like to see us do with it!
This mission was as incredible as it was thanks to the incredible knowledge, skills, and dedication of Spencer @MyWildBackyard and Donny @thewildfilesofficial, full stop. These guys are the real deal, passionate educators and captivating storytellers, and if you like what we do here, you will love everything they do on their channels. Go subscribe to them and check out all their amazing work!
If anyone can decode all the references in the inside joke at the end, you win. I don't know what you won, but you definitely did.
