A Serbian Film (2010) is one of the most disturbing and controversial horror movies ever created. Directed by Srdjan Spasojević, the movie has been banned in multiple countries, cut by 49 seconds in the UK, and caused chaos at its SXSW premiere where audiences walked out in shock.
The film is more than shock value — the director insists it’s an allegory of Serbia’s political exploitation of its people. Yet the controversy grew so extreme that some crew members disowned the project.
In Spain, the film blurred the line between art and crime when police charged a festival director with distribution of child pornography simply for screening the uncut version. Charges were later dropped, but no horror film has ever crossed the line in this way before.
