Printmaking has traditionally involved transferring images from a matrix (template) onto another surface, usually paper. Over the years it has evolved from traditional forms like etching, woodcut and lithography to more modern methods like screenprinting. But what value does printmaking hold in the digital age, and what are the contexts of learning, experimentation, and collaboration that shape its practice in the contemporary moment?
In this panel discussion, artists Archana Hande, Ayisha Abraham, Jayasimha Chandrashekar, Ravi Kashi and Venugopal V. G. explore the dynamic world of contemporary printmaking in India, exploring themes such as knowledge and resource sharing, systems of apprenticeship, and the role of peer networks, ateliers or community in shaping and expanding individual artistic practices, among others.
This event is conceptualised under our latest exhibition Rhyme Unbroken — Krishna Reddy as Artist and Perpetual Student.
