Heavy rainfall in southern Peru has caused catastrophic mudslides and flooding in Arequipa, leaving at least seven dead and thousands of homes damaged. The Chullo ravine overflowed, flooding dozens of properties with mud and debris, some reaching up to two meters in height. More than 5,500 homes have been affected, and 49 have been declared uninhabitable. Residents are in urgent need of help as further extreme weather is expected.
