Each year the National Wrestling Hall of Fame creates videos highlighting the career of those being honored.
Here is the video for Matt Lindland, a Distinguished Member inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2025.
Matt Lindland is a competitor and coach whose impact has transcended both the wrestling mat and the mixed martial arts arena.
An Olympic silver medalist in 2000 and World silver medalist in 2001, Matt was a dominant Greco-Roman wrestler who represented the U.S. at four World Championships and won gold at the Pan American Games in both freestyle and Greco. He was named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Year in 1999.
At the collegiate level, he was a national champion at Clackamas Community College before starring at the University of Nebraska, helping lead the Huskers to their highest NCAA finish ever with a 36-1 senior season.
After the Olympics, Matt entered the world of MMA, compiling a 22-9 professional record and co-founding Team Quest Fight Club. He also created SportFight, one of the top MMA promotions in the Pacific Northwest, and served as head coach of the Portland Wolf Pack in the IFL.
As head coach of the U.S. Greco-Roman national team from 2014 to 2022, he shaped future generations of Olympians and world medalists. He also developed elite talent through clubs, college teams, and youth programs across Oregon and the nation.
For his Olympic excellence, pioneering coaching, and lifelong commitment to growing the sport, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame proudly inducts Matt Lindland as a 2025 Distinguished Member.
