Hannah Spencer has officially been announced as Greater Manchester's newest MP. The Green Party candidate beat out rivals from Reform and the incumbent Labour Party to win Gorton and Denton in a stunning upset.
Spencer, 34, is a plumber and trainee plasterer who has now become the Green Party's fifth MP, and first in Greater Manchester, in a meteoric political rise.
She was first elected onto Trafford council in May 2023, representing the Hale ward. Twelve months later, she ran against Andy Burnham and four other candidates for the role of Greater Manchester mayor, finishing fifth with 6.9 per cent of the vote - an increased vote share for the Greens over their 2021 result.
Last May, Hannah was named the Green Party's group leader on Trafford council. “I'm really proud to show that anyone, from any background, is a welcome voice in politics," she said.
