Normally a chemical reaction is brought about between a solid and a liquid, or a solid and a gas. Very seldom can a solid reacts with another solid.
Here we have solid ammonium chloride and solid sodium hydroxide mixed together. After a minute or two, a red litmus paper was brought near the mouth of the test-tube and it turned blue.
