Flockhill’s Sugarloaf Restaurant & Luxury Villas Unveiling - Hierarchy Group

Описание: Hierarchy Group presents Flockhill's restaurant Sugarloaf, and Luxury Villas - an immersive experience in the dramatic, ever-changing landscape of the South Island's Southern Alps.

Situated within a vast 36,000-acre working sheep station in the Craigieburn Valley, Flockhill continues to evolve as a world class destination.

Hierarchy Group were engaged to bring the owners’ vision to life, designing the restaurant, luxury villas, and spa facility, ensuring each building remains deeply connected to its environment.

Sugarloaf is a striking yet restrained architectural statement, carefully positioned to frame the landscape while maintaining harmony with the station’s established identity.

A grand porte cochère welcomes guests with oversized copper doors, offering a first impression of the rich detailing and craftsmanship within. Verticality defines the design, with timber and concrete elements reinforcing a sense of grandeur.

Symmetry and rhythmic elements - such as negative joinery detailing, double flues, and sandwiched rafter details - create a layered spatial experience, inviting exploration and discovery at every level.

Complementing Sugarloaf, the Flockhill Villas offer an intimate and flexible retreat that integrates seamlessly into the rugged alpine setting. Inspired by the layered peaks of the Southern Alps, the villas form a cluster of gable-roofed structures, nestled into the landscape for privacy while capturing panoramic views.

Each villa consists of three volumes - two bedroom wings flanking a central living space, which can be included or omitted based on guest preference.

The material palette draws from the surrounding environment: greys of alluvial fields and braided rivers pair with dark timber and warm tones reflective of nearby forestry, subtly distinguishing the villas from the ochres of the station’s farm buildings.

More than just structures, Sugarloaf and the Villas celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of Flockhill Station. By harmonising architecture with the dramatic topography and respecting the historical significance of the land, they offer a contemporary dialogue with the landscape. A testament to balance - between built form and nature, elegance and restraint, immersion and comfort - they redefine luxury in the high country.
