An Agroscope documentary video shows the spotted-wing drosophila depositing eggs on a cherry. The insect pierces the skin of the fruit with its serrated ovipositor and deposits an egg underneath. The whitish 'breathing tubes' which afterwards protrude from the skin of the fruit and are indicative of infestation are clearly recognisable.
