Lake District Fly fishing for Brown Trout on the Upper Kent at Ullthwaite Bridge Aug 22

Описание: An Afternoon fly fishing for brown trout on the upper river Kent in the Cumbrian Lake District. The location is Ullthwaite pool in Kentmere Valley. This pool can be very good a day or two after rain but very quiet at other times.
On this day I caught a number of smaller fish which I thought were brown trout, but a friend suggested may be salmon parr.
It's always worth changing flies there. Fr the first 40 minutes I tries a foam emerger with a few poor takes that can be seen in the video. As soon as I changed to a light brown winged fly (shown in the film) I caught one after the other trout over a space of 20-25 minutes.

Staveley Anglers controls about 7 miles of the river Kent for trout and salmon fishing from just below Staveley up to Kentemere Tarn. Membership and day tickets can be bought at the newsagent/post office in staveley. Opening times here:

The river is not stocked with brown trout so all fish caught are wild. Brown trout are the predominant species but there are occasional salmon running the river. I have seen them jumping at the wear and one in Ullthwaite pool, which seems to hold them

Staveley is the gateway to the Lake District and is a good place to try fly fishing in Cumbria for the first time. The river has lots of accessible areas but the trout are easily spooked so a cautious approach is advised.
