Ladakh Will Not Get Full Statehood; Central Government Proposes New Autonomous Territorial Council

Описание: The Central Government has rejected granting full statehood to Ladakh. In a recent meeting with Ladakh representatives on February 13, 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dismissed demands for full statehood and Sixth Schedule status. Instead, the government proposed a new Autonomous Territorial Council (LAHDC) model and offered constitutional safeguards similar to Article 371 to protect Ladakh’s unique culture, language, and land. The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) rejected the proposal, calling it a farce.
