Hawaiian Tathra Cup Race Day on 29th December! was a day to remember with locals and holiday makers turning up for an unforgettable day of racing sunshine and fun. The seven race program was full of competitive racing with some exciting horses stepping out as summer racing heats up on the coast and horses prepare for the Bega Cup Carnival on the 31st of January / 1st February & the Country Championships on the 1st of March
R1 : TATHRA LITTLE BOTTLER COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE 14:10 PM (1000m)
Ms Caitlin Sinclair settled NEFRADITE off the speed with cover in the first race and when balanced in the straight the Gratz Vella trained filly let down nicely to come away for a convincing win by one length on the line R2 : G LUKAS CONSTRUCTIONS COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 14:45 PM (1000m)
The talented Nick Olive trained ALL ADORE started well into the red at $1.30 and didn’t disappoint. Ms Coriah Keatings took advantage of the one gate and rated the filly well in the lead, once balanced All Adore kicked clear and won convincingly by close to two lengths. R3 : BEGA LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 15:25 PM (1400m)
The local training partnership of Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones struck in race three with the talented up and coming stayer REMADOSI (NZ) , Pierre Boudvillain let the mare find her feet early settling just off the speed before asking her to let down in the straight. Remadosi was first up and looks to be an exiting prospect for the stable. R4 : KEEPLAN PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT MAIDEN PLATE 16:05 PM (1400m)
The Joseph Ible trained ALAMAGAN was caught out a little deep for the first furlong but with the straight run from the 1400m on the roomy Sapphire track the rider Ms Jess Taylor didn’t use any petrol whilst waiting to find a position just off the leader in second as they approached the first turn. Jess camped off the leader and once balanced Alamagan let down and came away in the straight for a convincing win.R5 : TATHRA BEACH HOUSE MAIDEN HANDICAP 16:40 PM (1200m)
Rebecca Kelly has been having a lot of luck bringing her Victorian trained horses up over the border to Sapphire and this one was simply way to classy for her opposition. Shaun Guymer took the even money favourite TANANA (NZ) to the lead after a furlong and the rest is history. Solid win.R6 : ELDERS TATHRA CLASS 3 HANDICAP 17:15 PM (1200m)
Ms Amy McLucas took the fit Theresa Bateup trained NIGHTS INFERNO to the lead and it proved a winning move. At the top of the straight Jazz All Knight challenged strongly and it was a great battle for the length of the straight but Knights Inferno proved to strong on the line . R7 : TATHRA BEACH COUNTRY CLUB TATHRA CUP BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 17:50 PM (1600m)
Ms Robyn Freeman made use of the one gate taking the Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones trained AMANOAH to the lead early, approaching the turn you could see Robyn had a lap full of horse and although the favourite HOLY HELL challenged strongly in the straight it never looked like getting past Amanoah.
Trainer of the day Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones with a double.
