Описание: POV: You’re Having Seizures But Didn’t Realise. Sources- PMID 33880289 michinaillounge on TT While many people associate seizures with "grand mal" or tonic-clonic events—characterized by dramatic loss of consciousness and violent limb shaking—many seizures are so subtle they are frequently mistaken for simple daydreaming or clumsiness. For example, an absence seizure involves a brief, sudden lapse in consciousness that may last only a few seconds. To an observer, the person might simply appear to be staring into space or "blanking out" mid-sentence. These episodes are often accompanied by nearly imperceptible physical signs, such as rapid eyelid fluttering, subtle lip-smacking, or small chewing motions, and because they end as abruptly as they begin with no lingering confusion, they can occur dozens of times a day without being recognized as a medical event. Similarly, myoclonic seizures manifest as brief, shock-like jerks of a muscle or a group of muscles, often affecting the arms, neck, or upper body. These "jerks" are so lightning-fast—usually lasting less than a second—that they are often dismissed as a nervous tic, a sudden startle reflex, or even just general morning clumsiness if they cause someone to drop an object. Unlike more severe seizures, the individual usually remains fully conscious and alert during a myoclonic jerk, making it difficult for bystanders to realize that a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity has just occurred in the brain. Recognizing these minor motor movements and "staring spells" is critical, as they can sometimes be precursors to more intense seizure activity or indicators of an underlying epilepsy syndrome that requires specialized management. #seizure #epilepsy #brain
