SONICWARE LIVEN Ambient Ø jam session - Cinematic Ambient

I had a jam session using the Ambient Ø, a soundscape synthesizer released as the 8th installment of the LIVEN series by the Japanese electronic instrument brand SONICWARE.

While the Ambient Ø has only four tracks, it features 10-voice polyphony, allowing for long note input and tie functions to extend notes. This makes it possible to play rich chords while layering evolving melodies on top, giving you a wide range of arrangement possibilities.

The synth engine is custom-designed, enabling unique sound design that’s fresh and inspiring to explore.

The direction of the sound is not based on the traditional, classical approach; rather, I aimed for a more dynamic ambient where the contours of chords and phrases are clearly defined. While drone-based sound direction is, of course, amazing, I wanted to make use of the 10-voice polyphony, one of the standout features of this gear, which led to this particular sound.

For this track, I recorded a 2-mix and applied mastering, but I kept the processing minimal—only using EQ, saturation, compression, limiting, and maximizing, with no additional plugins.

Layer 4’s NOISE track features the WIND waveform, which comes as a preset.

The theme behind this piece is the vitality of life on Earth—I wanted to capture the grandeur of nature’s landscapes and the way all living things resonate together.
