You wanted to know if it's normal to have headaches during pregnancy or if that's a typical symptom. And in the early weeks, a lot of women do notice that they have headaches. And women who have had headaches prior to being pregnant (like if you had issues with migraines), sometimes it becomes better during pregnancy, sometimes it becomes worse. So in other words, headaches can be normal. In addition, if you take anyone who's not pregnant, you might get headaches because you haven't had enough to eat, you haven't had enough to drink, you're really tired, you didn't get enough sleep, or maybe you just have a lot of stress and you've developed a tension headache. So if you've eliminated all of those possibilities and the headache just isn't getting better, it would be a good idea to talk with your doctor.
Especially let your doctor know about your headache if you just can't kick it and you're over 20 weeks in pregnancy, because sometimes this can be related to a condition of pregnancy called preeclampsia. And what they'll do is check your blood pressure. And if your blood pressure is higher than normal, then they may decide to investigate further, like draw labs, have you pee in a cup, monitor your blood pressure over a period of time to see what it is at rest, and then put all of the pieces of the puzzle together (how you're doing, how the baby is doing), and decide exactly what's going on and if intervention is necessary. As long as preeclampsia has been ruled out as the cause for the headache, then the doctor can talk to you about over-the-counter remedies that are safe during pregnancy until the headache passes.
