This was my re-introduction to wild camping. My first outing with my Vango Banshee two-person tent.
For this journey I headed up to Dundonnell, a small village in Ross & Cromarty in Scotland. The trip up was very scenic but nothing prepares you for that stunning view of An Teallach. There is something spectacular about this mountain arrangement that draws you in.
The path itself after leaving the car park on the A832 is along a very bouldery and shale assortment until flatter ground is reached a few miles in. The views are stunning all around with mountain ranges rising from all sides. Further still as you head down into Strath na Sealga the views across the valley open up with your eyes following the meandering of the river.
Walking along at the base of the track you pass through Achneigie, where a couple of buildings are found but in disrepair and one of which is firmly locked. Cross a wee stream with a waterfall and continu a couple of miles until the isolated building of Shenavall Bothy stands. The position of the bothy gives view across the river to Beinn a'Chlaidheimh, views into the Fisherfield Wilderness and the bulk of the Corbett Beinn Dearg Mòr. A beautiful place which is quiet and still apart from the odd noisy deer, or the wind when it flows through the valley here.
Please remember the Bothy Code and carry your rubbish out.
Enjoy.
