The opening session of the UN General Assembly begins in New York City on Monday.
The main themes this year are world peace and sustainability, but North Korea is also expected to be front and center following a slew of provocations by the regime.
Cha Sang-mi has the details.
The UN General Assembly, the world's broadest-ranging diplomatic forum, is to begin in earnest on Monday after its opening was officially declared last Tuesday.
Leaders and diplomats from the UN's 193 member nations will be gathering to discuss fundamental issues and tackle political and humanitarian challenges around the world.

The highlight of the Assembly will be the six-day discussion session set to begin this on Tuesday.
This year, the spotlight will be on newly elected presidents including South Korean President Moon Jae-in, his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump, and France's Emmanuel Macron.
They will each be delivering keynote speeches.

Big subjects from all corners of the world are up for discussion, but Pyongyang's incessant provocations are expected to be at the top of the list.
Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called the North's pursuit of nuclear missiles "the most dangerous crisis that we face today."

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2375 last week, which imposes new sanctions on the regime, including a ban on textile exports and an oil embargo on the North over its sixth nuclear test.

President Moon's keynote speech is scheduled for Thursday and he'll also be holding talks with Secretary-General Guterres and other leaders including President Trump and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe regarding cooperation to raise the pressure on North Korea.

Apart from the North Korean crisis, other agenda items include the mass flight of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims, global terror threats, and extreme climate change.
