On the 26th of April, a choral competition took place aimed at celebrating and elevating Namibian choral music by blending traditional and contemporary elements.
The competition featured five top choirs selected through auditions who competed for a grand prize of N$50 000. Participants performed contemporary Namibian songs in the first two rounds, followed by a final round where all choirs presented the same prescribed piece.
The competition was judged on elements such as intonation, diction, etiquette, technique and overall musicality. Desiree Mentor, the Public Relations Officer at the National Theatre of Namibia, as well as Jonn David Malgas, the Khomas Diverse Choir conductor who took the 1st prize, shared more.
