Trump announced the meeting himself on his social media platform, Truth Social. Alaska, chosen as the venue, is only a few hundred kilometres from Russia and has a shared history — it was once part of Russia before being sold to the U.S. in 1867.
While many might expect talks about ending the Russia-Ukraine war, that is unlikely.
