My very early unknown builder steam engine found near Virginia City by Greg Johnson several decades ago...hence the name. Here it is finished ( except for a missing nut or two ) running on live steam.
The Boiler was rescued by Larry Snow Many years ago from a Chinese laundry in California. This boiler has been properly retubed after extensive ultrasound and calculations done by a good engineer friend of mine. The calculations gave a safe MAWP of 116 PSI but this was cut in half ( being it's an antique boiler ) for a MAWP of 60 PSI. I have the safety valve set for 35 PSI. As you can see this engine runs very sweetly on 20 PSI. I have no intention of working this engine hard. It has earned a leisurely pace just as I have.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone has an engraving or a woodcut..a catalog or advertisement similar to this engine. It resembles a "Globe" engine made by Globe Iron Works in Stockton, California. A very early foundry and builder of steam engines, information remains almost non-existent except for one other surviving engine in gold country and much larger than this one.
