How is HCC diagnosed? The diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma is slightly different from making a diagnosis of another cancer. HCC can be diagnosed with AASLD, American Association of Study for Liver Disease, image criteria, which is through the multi-phase flow of contrast, a image hallmark characteristics by arterial enhancement in the early phase, arterial phase, and venous wash-off and capsule formation. If the lesion in the cirrhotic liver does not meet those criteria, then a biopsy should be taken to make the diagnosis.
