Since I discovered Korean suyuk, I've loved preparing my pork this way: it's so juicy and flavourful and so easy to make! The ingredients might not be super authentic but you can always adjust them to your preferences. I hope you try this technique rather than focusing on having all the right ingredients. The pork doesn't need to cook longer than 1hr, watch it and see. It might still have a slightly pink look when you slice it, that's perfectly normal. You can eat this as is, with rice ( cabbage dishes pair perfectly with this), or you can add to wraps, bahn mi, salads and other sandwiches. It pairs very nicely with chilli 🌶 oil ( see my cooking playlist for the recipe).
Ingredients:
1kg pork
Base flavourings
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp msg
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp coffee
Herbs & spices
5 cloves
1 star anise
Small amount cinnamon sticks
3-4 medium bay leaves.
1/2 tablespoon carom seeds
More flavour:
1/2 tablespoon chilli powder
Half a packet of soy milk powder.
The broth is incredibly flavourful and can be used as stock, as a soup or to cook your rice or noodles in. Just add some scallions, ginger, garlic and a whole onion bulb to round it out if you're planning to use it this way.
