How To Become A Coast Guard Pilot?
Becoming a Coast Guard pilot requires dedication and meeting specific qualifications. First, you must be a U.S. citizen, generally between 17 and 35 years old, and possess a strong academic record, typically with a bachelor's degree. While any major is accepted, STEM fields are often advantageous. There are several pathways to becoming a commissioned officer, a prerequisite for flight training. These include graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) after earning your degree, or participating in programs like the College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative (CSPI). Regardless of the path, you'll need to pass rigorous physical examinations and achieve competitive scores on the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB-E). Once commissioned, officers can apply for flight school. Successful candidates attend a challenging 18-month flight training program at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion, you earn your wings and begin serving a minimum eight-year flight commitment, flying critical missions like search and rescue, law enforcement, and environmental protection.
