The film TRUTH BE TOLD comes from the legendary Emmy-Award Winning Director Nneka Onuorah and best-seller African-American radically inclusive Christian Pastor Pamela K. Williams.
The documentary features Billy Porter, Cedric the Entertainer, Kev on Stage, and frequent Tyler Perry collaborators David and Tamala Mann interviews led by Pastor Williams. They confront and critique mainstream Black media with humor, honesty, love, and fellowship.
Through the eyes of Onuorah and Pastor Pamm, the documentary follows the Black church’s historical failure to support its queer members.
THIS IS A MOVEMENT. Pastor Pamm uncovers the healing journey and sharp study. This portrait critiques the Black community lovingly, balancing the beauty of fellowship within the church against the damaging legacy it must work to undo.
Truth Be Told will premiere on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 8:00 PM EST at the Los Angeles OUTFEST Film Festival, showing at the Directors Guild of America, Theatre One.
Truth Be Told streaming debut is Monday, July 24, 2023, at 3:00 PM EST – click here to pre-order the film now.
More About Pastor Pamela K. Williams
Pastor Pamela K. Williams (often called Pastor Pamm) is a lifelong resident of West Philadelphia and the founding pastor of the Ark of Refuge Tabernacle of Philadelphia, an affirming and inclusive ministry in the University City community. Pastor Pamm is a ministerial-associated Fellowship of Affirming Ministries - founded by Dr. Yvette Flounder.
She is a past member of the Pennsylvania State Steering Committee for Equality PA, the Community Advisory Board Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Branch of the NAACP.
Pastor Pamm has also served as an Executive Committee member and the First Vice Chair of the 60th Democratic Ward of Philadelphia County.
Pastor Pamm’s mission is to live her mother's legacy by advocating for God’s oppressed and marginalized people, especially the LGBTQI community.
Pastor Pamm learned how to love and support the disenfranchised and those in despair through her mother. Mrs. Williams’ struggle for civic improvement embraced many aspects of urban life-civil rights, politics, health, education, housing, and economic development, particularly emphasizing the African American experience. She was a consummate advocate for change.
Pastor Pamm has continued her mom’s legacy and walked in her shoes. On her deathbed, Ms. Williams told her to build a church. Churches have the responsibility to be community development for all communities – ACCOUNTABILITY.
“Pastor Pamm has the strong values, community roots, and courage we need to stand up to politicians and working people. Her platform of creating fair housing opportunities, raising the wage, ensuring fair education funding, providing healthcare for all, advocating for women’s rights, reforming criminal justice systems, and getting money out of politics is resonating with the residents of her district. We need change in Harrisburg now, and we need leaders like Pastor Pamm with the strong backbone and moral compass to lead that change.” – Brandon Evans, Pennsylvania Working Families Party.
“You have seen Mike Tyson versus Evander Holyfield – but have you ever seen the LGBTQ+ community versus the Black church?” - Nneka Onuorah.
