Und wir kauern wieder um die heiße Glut
und erzählen vom Abenteuer
denn der wilde Balkan ist gerad noch gut
und wir schwören am Lagerfeuer:
Daß die Neider verdammt und die Spießer verflucht,
die uns gehemmt viel tausend Male.

Doch sehr bald wird es wahr, daß wir stehen am Meer
und gedenken der fernen Heimat.
denn der kleine Trupp, der rüstet sehr
zu verlassen die grauen Mauern.
Und es hält uns nichts mehr und wir freuen uns sehr,
bald flattern Segel gegen Osten.

English Translation
And we cower again around the hot embers
and tell each other of adventures
because the wild Balkans are just good enough
and we swear by the campfire:
That the envious be damned and the philistine cursed,
who hindered us many thousands of times.

But very soon it will come true that we are standing by the sea
and remember the distant homeland
because the small troop prepares a lot
to leave the gray walls.
And nothing can stop us and we are very happy
soon sails are fluttering to the east.
