Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris is technically the second book of a series, but Red Dragon isn't necessary reading to enjoy this book. The opening is fast-paced, but not action. It's full of dialogue, but it's not boring. It's a first chapter that gives you all the information you need to be primed for the rest of the book. If you've ever wondered "How to start a story" or "how to write a book" or "what makes a good first chapter" then this video may help as an analysis of what the author does and why.
