A short video on how to fix a broken reverse lockout pullrod in a manual Volvo 240. This is on the m46 transmission (overdrive) but the procedure should be mostly the same for an m47 (true 5-speed).
Off camera, I put shrink wrap on the flaky parts of the overdrive wires and bent the terminals a tad so they'd hold better.
I replaced the pullrod, but I've seen pics on a forum where someone repaired by attaching a loop of metal wire to a hole drilled near the end of the plastic rod. I assume a copious amount of glue was used.
