Hey there neighbor, it's Kevin here at etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hellwig Rear Anti-sway Bar here on our 2022 Toyota Tundra. If you're like our neighbor today and you own a Tundra, you probably also wanna do a lot more with it. Tundras are a super popular truck for overlanding and getting out there and just having a good time. And a lot of people wanna haul a lot of heavier gear and typically it's gonna be kind of facing one side or the other. So, now you're dealing with an offset load, which can really exacerbate any kind of swaying that you have whenever you're going down those highways at that highway speed and then facing all the crosswinds from other vehicles out on the road. Or if it's just a really windy area that you're in.
Along with that, typically what people start to see is with that sway, they're not so much looking at the anti-sway bar, they're starting to look in their suspension, which, not a bad idea. You can get some SumoSprings or Timbrens or maybe even an airbag set up, and that'll kind of help deal with sag and side to side sway. But you can also go with the anti-sway bar and it's gonna make a much bigger difference for you. Now, the one that we installed today is from Hellwig and it's gonna have three different firmness settings, so that way you can actually kind of adjust this and really kind of fine tune it to exactly how you want it to feel. So, I personally installed one of these on my truck.
I put it at the standard, just lowest setting with firmness, and honestly, it made a night and day difference for me. Now, with ours today we are replacing a factory one, so it won't be as big of a difference, just starting off with, but this is a thicker bar in general. This is gonna be about a quarter inch thicker than our factory bar. And then on top of that, like I said, we have those firmness settings. Now, I set it at the lowest firmness, just so that way our neighbor can kind of try it out, see if they like it and if they don't, they can always come back and we'll just quickly adjust it right back over and be all good to go in just a matter of minutes.
So, I do think that this is going to be one of the best upgrades you could purchase for your truck. Now, Roadmaster likes to say that for every eighth of an inch thicker that you go with on that bar, it's gonna be about a 20% difference. So, our factory bar was right at an inch in diameter and our new one is right at one and a quarter. So, that's gonna give us about a 40% upgrade over what we already had, not even including that we can adjust that firmness with our sway bar. Now, kinda getting into the install, this one isn't too difficult.
You will have to remove your drive shaft so it's just four bolts you're gonna disconnect and then slide the drive shaft out of the way. That can kind of throw people off a little bit. It definitely can be a little hard to get to. It's kind of a cramped spot. So, I did use a crow's foot when I was torquing it down. Aside from that, I really wasn't using any kind of specialty tools that you wouldn't already have besides maybe just a torque wrench. And if you don't have a torque wrench, you can easily pick one up here or rent one from your local auto parts store. Typically they'll have some kind of rental program where you're only putting a deposit down, then you can just get your money back when you go and return it. So, that way you're not out extra money. Now, this is gonna have custom fit brackets and it's gonna be reusing our end links. If your end links are looking a little worse for wear, maybe go out there before you purchase it or while you're waiting for it to ship to you, go out there and see if you can kinda loosen those nuts on the end link first. You might need to re purchase those and get those replaced at the same time that you're putting in the sway bar. Which is also a good time to start looking at your suspension. Maybe you're dealing with a few more problems, maybe you got a lot of sag 'cause you're hauling some heavy loads, or pulling a trailer, or maybe you're hauling heavy equipment in there once in a while, you might wanna look into getting some SumoSprings. It's super easy to just pop out your factory jounce bumper and get those installed at the same time, 'cause
