Luna has lived here her whole life — a white cat with golden patches, one torn ear, and amber eyes that miss nothing. She knows every alley, every danger, every escape route. Beside her is her only kitten, Blaze — orange as fire, fearless, and impossible to slow down.
One night, strangers arrive at the harbour warehouse. Vans. Cages. They are catching stray cats and loading them in the dark. Luna watches from the rooftop — and doesn't make it in time. Blaze falls into a trap. The cage is lifted into a van. The doors close.
Luna doesn't hesitate. She runs across the rooftops, jumps onto the moving van's hood. The driver brakes hard. She disappears into the dark and follows them underground — through drainage pipes, narrow, cold, flooded — fighting through rats in the black to come out the other side. Inside the abandoned factory: dozens of cages. A guard dog patrolling below. Luna crosses the entire building on ceiling beams, ten metres off the ground, and finds him. She works the latch with her paw. One, two, three. It opens.
They escape through a broken window under the roof. They fall into darkness — and land on a pile of sacks in the yard next door. Two shapes in the harbour fog, both breathing hard. Luna licks Blaze's head once. Then they walk.

12:20 — Joe opens the cargo hatch without a word. They jump in. He sits on top until dawn.
13:10 — At sunrise, Luna jumps onto his knee. Blaze climbs straight onto his shoulder. Three beings on an old boat in the morning light.
14:00 — Joe reports what he saw. The illegal lab is shut down. All the cats freed.
14:50 — That night, Luna doesn't patrol. She just lies beside Blaze and looks at the stars. Eyes closed. No fear.
15:30 — A month later. Sunset. Joe on the bow with a fishing rod. Luna under his hand. Blaze asleep on the nets. Nobody going anywhere.
