Описание: Syrian Kurdish forces released 34 Australians from Roj camp, which holds families of suspected Islamic State militants, on Monday. Hukmiya Mohamed, co-director of the camp, said the Australians were handed over to family members who travelled to Syria for the release. The group was transported by small buses under military escort to Damascus ahead of their departure. Roj camp houses more than 2,000 people from 40 nationalities, mostly women and children. While thousands linked to IS have been detained there and at al-Hol since 2019, the Australian government reaffirmed it will not repatriate individuals from Syria. Northern Syria saw recent shifts after Syrian government forces seized territory from Kurdish-led groups before a ceasefire on January 29.
