I borrowed this pushfeed as payment for some case processing. The last couple times I've seen it in use, it double fed, so I was curious if it would happen to me and if I could fix it.
First, I needed clips as the owner couldn't find the proper 5 rounders. Standard military clips have a different bump spacing, so they just push into the magazine. After cutting them to fit the clip slot and tweaking for smooth stripping, I tested with dummies for function. It worked fine. I detected a subtle hitch with the left side rounds. I think that's because the ejector was modified with a relief cut that makes it proud of the lug face.
Next I needed a load. My Vihtavuori N32C experiments in .308 and .30-06 have been successful, so I consulted Gordon's Reloading Tool to see if the rule of thumb of normal weight bullet for cartridge and 60-70% load density would continue. It affirmed this. I tested 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0gr under 50gr VMAX with CCI 450s. There were a couple light strikes that needed 1 or 2 more wacks. The 7.5gr group was a good size with good velocity consistency (0.4 MOA mr, SD of 18fps). 8.0gr had a slightly better group and slightly more velocity spread (0.3 MOA mr, SD of 26fps). For this match, I split the difference and used 7.7gr. I replaced the CCI 450s with old Federal 100 small pistol primers. Predicted average velocity is 2000fps.
Standing, I just fought the front heaviness. Sitting, I was canted about 20-30* clockwise. My NPoA was slightly left in Prone Rapid. The wobble in Prone Slow was about 2 MOA diameter and I mistimed some shots.
I didn't get to practice positions and didn't sleep well, so I'll blame that for not shooting a High Master score. Otherwise, I was pleased with The Load Mod 2. The rifle is good, but has a few quirks I would change - the ejector pride, move the weight bias an inch or two to the rear, ease the cocking effort so the bolt cycle is more fluid instead of the American up-back-forward-down that shakes the sight picture. The owner has been practicing Standing and had a very good day with his AR. Even with my above preferences I doubt I'd have won the drag race. Kudos.
ETA: I'm impressed I didn't miscount to 5 in the rapids. XD
