Описание:
Takamura was a gifted court official,
a poet,
and a master of calligraphy.
This poem is said to have been composed
when his exile was decided
and he was forced to leave the capital.
It was a time of great adversity.
And yet, he continued to write poetry.
Speaking of continuing,
VIT is digging holes again today.
Perhaps by continuing,
something slowly comes into view.
As he digs, VIT uncovers a fossil.
At the museum, it is identified as a mammoth torso.
Standing beside it, he measures its immense size.
Then VIT remembers—
he sent Takamura’s poem card,
but never asked for impressions.
In his imagination,
Takamura departs alone.
A crowd has gathered—not for comfort,
but to mark the moment.
He is in tears.
Officials watch in silence.
Takamura recites his poem to a fishing boat,
his laughter carried away with the waves.
He is bold, expansive—
a man of great ability,
in office, in poetry, and in calligraphy.
VIT wonders what circumstances
might have led such a man into exile.
School, work, family—
life is never simple.
Moved by a poet who kept creating
even in hardship,
VIT feels a quiet disappointment in himself.
“I could never be like that,” he thinks.
Still, as he looks at the holes he has kept digging,
he feels a small confidence.
Perhaps continuing—
even imperfectly—
is something he can do.
Fishing boat—
go and tell them this:
I sail toward
the far-off sea,
crossing
countless isles.
