Yeyemoolu Festival is held in Ile-Ife in celebration of the Legendary Queen of Ile-Ife YEYEMOOLU, believed to be the first queen of the first Ooni of Ife.
Yeyemoolu was said to be thirsty for the fruit of the womb but to no avail. And upon her advice, the then Ooni married other wife with the hope that Olodumare will favour her too through her grace but she was wrong.
She was in return lost her position of respect in the palace to the new wife and to cover the intense frustration and shaming, She turned into a well right inside the palace.
Interestingly, till date, tradition holds that Yeyemoolu as replicated by the well, remains the first wife of every Ooni of Ife.
The Yeyemoolu Well has since constitute an important tourism masterpiece in the Ife palace attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually for prayers and exploration both from within and outside the country.
