Magic Eraser on Cymbals?! Let's try it! Mr. Clean DIY Drummer

I just recently posted a video about cleaning my drums with a Swiffer duster and how convenient it is and someone commented that another great tip is the Magic Eraser to clean his cymbals! It made me think about that and someone else had mentioned it once before in a previous cymbal cleaning video so I said lets do it!! So I grabbed a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, a towel, some water and reached into my broken bag of cymbals and gave it a try!

I tried two different types of cymbals, natural finish and brilliant finish. Here is what I learned, this is a GREAT cleaner for Natural Finish cymbals. It removed basically all the stick marks, any oxidization and whatever finger prints may have been there (natural finish cymbals leave little finger marks). But, when I tried cleaning the Brilliant Finish cymbal... it shined it up and removed the stick marks but definitely could not beat the finger grease and left most the oil prints behind. So for this cleaning trick, it works best for Natural finish vs brilliant finish.

The biggest question... what about the logos?! Well, you just watched first hand that the logos survived the first round of cleaning with no issues. Now, keep in mind, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is technically just a wet sanding process with a very very find grit.. so eventually will it take off the logo.. ABSOLUTELY! No cleaning product in my opinion is logo safe. If it cleans, it'll eat a logo. But, just be gentle and work your way around the logo best you can to keep it safe!

For those who don't know.. Magic Erasers are literally little wet sanding sponges. So yes technically you are wet sanding your cymbals if you use this. So for this, just remember, use at your own risk. Some people say this will remove the top coat and others say they've been doing this with no issues for years!
