In 1947, George Alexanderson, a photojournalist for The New York Times’ China bureau, took a photograph of the office where he worked.
Decades later, guided by this old image—and with the patient help of many followers—we finally traced the location of that office: inside the Shen Bao Building in Shanghai. At the time, The New York Times’ China bureau was still housed there, and the entire neighborhood was a vibrant cluster of newspaper offices and printing houses.
In 2025, The New York Times published an article marking the centennial of its China bureau. Qiao Shanghai Studio also produced a special episode that was warmly received.
