The Bayonne Bridge connects northern Staten Island to the Bayonne Peninsula of eastern New Jersey. The bridge opened in 1931 as the world's largest steel arch bridge: a title that it held until 1978. It's 1,675 ft. span is still among the world's longest. It carries four lanes of Route 440 over the Kill Van Kull.
