“The future is not something that happens to us, but something we create together!”

Karen Palmer calls herself a “storyteller from the future.” She is a London-based artist whose work straddles film, behavioral psychology, immersive storytelling, and AI. At FILMSCHOOLFEST MUNICH 2024, Palmer introduced students, activists, creatives, and tech experts to her “Hack the Future Lab,” a workshop format that aims to expand participants’ perceptions, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and spark new ways of thinking about technology and society.

Together with project developer Mario Márquez Lartigue and AI and data strategist Nigel Guy, Karen Palmer presented the launch of the continuation of her award-winning immersive film project Consensus Gentium, which was featured at Munich International Film Festival 2023. Under the title Hack the Future, three labs in Africa, Asia, and Europe gather and share input, which will ultimately feed into Consensus Gentium II, the new project by Karen Palmer and her team. FILMSCHOOLFEST MUNICH was honored to host its only lab in Europe.
