Building the Heinrich Hertz experimental set-up and turning it into some cool Xmas gifts for friends. Mr Hertz discovered radio waves, something that Marconi would later turn into the wireless technology revolution.
//Some notes regarding inductive and capacitive coupling of energy.
(there have been a lot of comments on this and I just can't keep up with the repeated typing of these notes, I hope this method of communication is acceptable...)
I am currently convinced that the majority of the energy that is ionizing the little neon tube is from RF emissions, however, later simulations do show a small amount of capacitive energy transfer also being present.
INDUCTIVE COUPLING
I think we can discount this.
1) The receiving antenna does not have any closed loops for any current to be induced in this way. The glass between the two halves of the antenna was very meticulously cleaned.
2) The induced power would fall off with the 4th power of distance, but clearly that isn't the case in my experiments.
CAPACITIVE COUPLING
I think that a small amount of power is coupled this way. I really wish I had shown some of the footage of some of the experiments I did that sort of counter this argument. Here are some reasons that I feel this is not a significant source of energy transfer.
1) The experiments with the 15cm long wires got about the same energy transfer as I achieved with the planer antennas (ie similar brightness of the neon indicator), and at about the same distance, but the mutual capacitance is going to be vastly different between these two cases.
2) With the same planer antennas, the energy transfer was pretty similar when these were placed flat on the desk, as when they were arranged vertically. The distance from the center of the antennas was about the same (such as in the latest thumbnail), but perhaps the center of the antenna is not the correct place to be measuring between? But anyway, the mutual capacitance between these two geometries is vastly different.
3) Capacitivly coupled voltages fall at the 3rd power of distance, again, this sort of sudden fall off was not noticed or visible in the experiments that are shown, mostly in chapter #5.
Please feel free to refute any of these assertions, I am here to learn too, just be polite. Add any additional information in the comments section.
Thanks, let's learn together...

//DC Adapter
I got mine from a local vendor that normally only sells with an MOQ of 5000 pieces but used my contacts to get some at the sample price. These are only designed for the Mianland Chinese market so you are going to need to find your own 9V @2A DC adapter. Please get a good quality one, don't 'cheapskate' on this part...
