The Great Northern (Full Album) — Microtonal Psych-pop (15-EDO, 17-EDO, 19-EDO & Just Intonation)

Описание: The Great Northern is a solo album of microtonal songs released under the Bad Canada project. It moves fluidly between 15-EDO, 17-EDO, 19-EDO, just intonation, and various intertunings, combining voice with electric and acoustic microtonal guitars, digital just-intonation keyboards, and heavily warped audio processing.

This was the second solo album I made in a song-based format, with vocals and all instruments performed and produced independently. Unlike later instrumental projects, this record is rooted in songwriting—melody, text, and form—while allowing tuning systems to shift between tracks, sometimes even within them.

The album opens with a sparse piece for 17-EDO electric guitar and voice, named after a song by The Notorious B.I.G.. From there, the record expands into denser textures, layered tunings, and increasingly unstable harmonic ground, treating microtonality not as a fixed system but as a mutable expressive field.

At the time of its release, The Great Northern received very little response, and its lack of reception ultimately led me to step away from the Bad Canada project and sell most of the instruments used to make it. In retrospect, the album sits at a crossroads: between structured songwriting and later fully instrumental microtonal work, between commitment and abandonment, between exploration and retreat.

However, September 2025 was the beginning of a new set of song recordings, that hopefully will be brought to completion.

Presented here as a full uninterrupted album, this upload revisits a body of work that quietly shaped what came next—even if that influence wasn’t visible at the time.
