bp is one of the largest investors in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Thunder Horse is the largest of our production and drilling platforms in this area. In 2017, the work started with the southern expansion project, which consists of creating a new drilling centre two miles south of the Thunder Horse platform. This expansion could provide the area with 50,000 extra barrels of oil produced per day, and make the most out of the resources we already have near us.
