Once again, using the same stones I couldn't get keen on the Smock knife, produced a fantastic edge on this one. I think at this point, I can conclude, something was definitely wrong, with that Smock blade.
Even with my angle being inconsistent, I was able to get double digit results, on the Edge on up Edge tester. As I have said in other videos, consistency, is not the key to sharpness. Yes it helps. Yes it makes the bevels more aesthetically pleasing, but, the most important thing in sharpening, is to grind to the apex. For me, that means grinding to a burr. If you are familiar with plateau sharpening, or Cliff Stamp's 3 step process; just removing the light from the edge, is enough to reach the apex. It will require more refinement, once the light reflection is removed. At that point, you are in a perfect position, to switch stones, or start doing your finishing passes.
I know, I beat to death the fact, I prefer polished edges, and I try to mention that, in most of my videos. However, I was told in a recent comment, that my viewers are not mind readers, and going to such high grits, did not make sense. I'm not trying to pick on the guy, just trying to reinforce the point, of why I sharpen, in the progressions that I do.
